Ballooning in Forest Park

Forest Park is a huge beautiful park in St. Louis about 5 minutes from our house. The Zoo, art museum, science center and an outdoor theater are just a few of the many fun things there are to do in Forest Park. Last night, we enjoyed our first experience at the annual Balloon lighting. It was beautiful. Once a year, hundreds of people gather in Central field to oooh and ahhh as more than 30 hot air balloons light up the night sky. We brought food and had a pic nic with friends while we waited for the "show" to begin.

When we first got there, we weren't sure if we were in the right spot. We couldn't see anything yet and were afraid we would miss something. Around 7pm, we started to see a few balloons pop up over people's heads. It turned out that we had fantastic seats as we were very close to all the balloons. It was a beautiful night with perfect weather, chilly enough for me to wear my new jacket from my favorite online shop (i'll blog about that later). Eli wore his new baha that grand marmie got for him.

We loved the balloons but we really loved the fact that we had real friends meet up with us at the park. I told Dan as we were leaving "I'm so excited. We have something to do on a Friday night and we might even see people we know!!!!" Some of those people were Tim and Heather and their little girl Libby. They live a block away from us and host the house church that we go to each Wednesday night. We have enjoyed getting to know them.

Once all the balloons were filled and lit up, we walked around for a closer look. Every few minutes, someone would signal to the others via blow horn and all the balloons would light up. It was beautiful.

The evening ended with fire works. Eli loved them and was sad to go. We had a great time. I can't wait to go again next year!
