Last minute vacay

My sister's best friend went into labor 5 weeks early on Friday morning. Abby was planning to be her labor coach in March so she called to let me know she would be driving to Nashville instead of accompanying us to the farmer's market. I wasn't looking forward to a long lonely weekend with the boys and decided to give Abby company instead. We spent our days outside in the 65 degree weather and spent our evenings on the front porch. It was the prefect last minute vacation.

Slow days, peaceful days. This is what I picture when I think of home.

No trip to grandma's house is complete without a nice long bubble bath.

My brother Jesse and his friend Bobby came over to cut some dead branches off of the huge trees in the yard. Elijah was enthralled with the chain saw as well as Bobby's ability to get so high up in the trees "like Winnie the Pooh!". Eli was their cheerleader shouting "Go Barbie! WooHoo! You can do it!". HALRIOUS!

Abby and I helped my parents sort through stuff in the attic. What did we find? You'll never guess so I'll have to tell you. Old dress up clothes, Little House on the Prairie style and Abby's casts from when she broke both of her arms at age 8.

Grandma got new reading glasses with lights on the sides. WOW-I couldn't breathe I laughed so hard. Elijah thought they were awesome.

We had an early birthday dinner for Abby at a new Mexican restaurant.

Laz sucked his thumb with his new blankie most of the time and then got cuddles with grandma. His new favorite thing to do is find something small, a thread, strand of hair or fuzz and hold onto it for dear life while sucking his thumb. Now is the time to introduce him to his Ugly Doll OX. I'm sure they will become best friends.

It was a short but restful trip. Abby got to support her dear friend and I got to veg. Per-fect.

  1. I don't think I've commented as of yet on your blog.

Your mom is going to be my doula when I give birth...any day now. I thought it might be prudent to introduce myself. :)

I love your writing style and how informative your posts are. I have found your cloth diaper posts very useful, as I am in the process of switching to cloth diapers with my oldest son, and going cloth exclusive with my soon to be youngest son.

I have done thorough research, but haven't been able to nail down how many diapers one should buy for each child. I've decided to go with the Fuzzi Bunz one size diapers, but I don't know how many to buy.

Also, do you recommend starting with the fuzzi bunz one size with newborns? Do they stay on them, because we tried some cloth diapers with my oldest son when he was born, and they just wouldn't stay up on his waist.

    -Thank you!

  2. Thank you so much for the tips!!!

We had been looking at the fitted diapers, because we have a skinny boy too (tall, but skinny), and chances are, this next one will be skinny as well. I just hadn't found any covers that were this inexpensive. I think the cheapest I saw was about 8.50 each, so 4.95 each is much better, even if they aren't in factory perfection.

I mean...this is something that goes on a bottom, right? ^_^
