New Years Resolution-Mary Kate and Ashley

To Grandmother's House We Go Poster

New Year's resolutions depress me. Most people can't keep them, including myself. We always get too ambitious promising to lose 20 pounds, learn a new language or visit 6 foreign countries. They aren't resolutions, they're dreams! Unless you are a very wealthy student, no one can accomplish those things. Who needs another reason to feel like a failure? This year, I decided to pick a New Year's resolution that I knew I could accomplish.

My New Year's resolution: Watch every Mary-Kate & Ashely Olsen movie in chronological order from oldest to newest. Most of them are on Netflix and I figured I could rent the other ones that weren't. Um, yeah....the first movie was impossible to find! Feel frustrated and completely unwilling to give up after only two weeks into the new year, I ended up buying a VHS copy from amazon.com. Never in a million years did I think I would own a VHS copy of "To Grandmother's House We Go" starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Well, I do. Feel free to borrow it.

My sister Abby and I set up her Tv and VHS/DVD player in the living room, cuddled up on the couch and spent the next 96 minutes in pain. The twins are probably 5 years old in the movie and were overly directed. Actually, everyone was super directed in this film, it was hilarious. With punch lines like "Don't even think about it" and "Hold your horses and everything else" (in reference to a twin having to pee), the humor was forced. Still, we laughed and laughed and laughed but not at the jokes.

The plot was random and surprisingly unpredictable. The twins decide to give their mommy a vacation for Christmas after they made her cry. Apparently, they were a hand full. Once on their feet, the story picks up. After meeting the love interest (who stops being interested after finding out the lady has kids!), the old geezer bandits and the one and only grandma, things quickly resolve and the twins are safe at home. Wow...I still can't believe I watched that movie, AND I own it!

Next on the queue, Double, Double Toil and Trouble.

  1. Can I just say this post made me extremely happy? It should not surprise you to know that I love Mary Kate and Ashley. I used to watch all of the movies in high school with one of my best friends. And "To Grandmother's House We Go" was one of my favorite movies in elementary school. I have never seen "Double Double Toil and Trouble." My personal favorites are "Holiday In the Sun" and "Winning London." I hope you are ready for some ridiculous plots and terrible acting--but they really are enjoyable movies!
